I just discovered this new site called every noise at once in which it manages to scan and catalogue more than 1500 spotify genres to create all of this lovely genre party
"This is an ongoing attempt at an algorithmically-generated, readability-adjusted scatter-plot of the musical genre-space, based on data tracked and analyzed for 1540 genres by Spotify. The calibration is fuzzy, but in general down is more organic, up is more mechanical and electric; left is denser and more atmospheric, right is spikier and bouncier.
Click anything to hear an example of what it sounds like.
Click the » on a genre to see a map of its artists.
And you also can expand into certain genres to discover artists that share the same genre. genreland for the genrephiles.
I thought this meant that every noise was going to play at one time and create a horrifying cacophony. I do that sometimes by putting a bunch of shit in audacity (or something nicer) and making a mess.
