Post subject: Artists with a LONG span between album releases
For some reason this intrigues me. I think it's because you can observe the contrast of how people change over the course of time, as well as how they essentially stay the same.

To me these artists fall into at least 3 categories:
1. Artists in their prime who stop recording for internal reasons, not external ones.
2. Bands who break up and reunite.
3. Artists who are commercially unsuccessful and get a second chance when they're rediscovered.
For me, category #1 is the most interesting, because the artists had a choice, even if they might've not felt that way. Two really famous examples of #1:
Guns 'N Roses - The Spaghetti Incident (1993) / Chinese Democracy (2008)
D'Angelo - Voodoo (2000) / The Black Messiah (2014)
There are famous examples in literature: William Gaddis, Thomas Pynchon etc.

I suppose there's Tool not releasing an album for 12 years... but not nearly as interesting as some of the examples given... and they still haven't released it... haha. Perhaps it will be another 20 years.
