so there's been a few comments like that and I don't think things need to be so hostile, I mean I do have my disagreements with the approach and the sort of stuff that gets left out of view by it, but there's no harm in seeing the position get articulated, and I feel like this sort of reaction discourages that from happening.
because there could be an interesting conversation to be had on that last point, but there's gotta be some fairness to it. we're all on this site making lists and some of us going further with number scores as well, none of us are keeping it as simple as a binary like/dislike. there can be a lot of intuition and maybe even a little arbitrariness involved, but there is going to be more consideration of the value of one thing put up against all of the other things which will have more nuance than a thumbs up or thumbs down.
but if we focus on building up our system and articulate it with too much detail, can we become trapped by it, overemphasizing established knowledge and creating a definitive idea of what is new, divorcing it from the unknown, eventually resulting in a taste freeze so deep that it cannot be thawed by even the hottest new sounds? I think yes, but I think it's fair to disagree, and even if someone stayed disagreed with me I still think we could have an interesting conversation.

C'mon man, is it really so hard to understand? It is a descriptive criteria for his evaluations, how he rates/ranks. It is insight into how he thinks about this and makes his determinations. Why would such a thing be resented or be annoying? Especially on a site where the very foundation of it is to rate and rank albums. Personally, I am much more interested in the views of someone that really tries at such a thing. Whether I agree with their ratings/rankings or not, I am much more likely to consider their views and perhaps reconsider or add to my own due to their insights. It is refreshing to see users explain the criteria behind their selections, ratings and rankings (again, regardless of their similarity to mine, Scaruffi's, or whoever) _________________ Best Classical

I dig Romanelli and his chart as well, including his mini reviews of the albums. Just thought his comment seemed a little off putting. But Ive certainly had my own share of those -- no big deal. Life moves on. Bone swah. _________________ Best Classical

oh are you still point locked out from bigger chart making? I'd recommend going to https://www.besteveralbums.com/added_albums.php and using the google search link on the album pages to quickly gather up the info from discogs or whatever, you can wrack up the points real quick with some copy and pasting, it's worth it to get things expanded.

It's time to come out of the closet... Music is mostly a science of overlapping wave frequencies, it is incapable of expressing anything unique, and means different things to different ppl..

Okay but this is demonstrably false, proven by the very fact that, like real-life moments and experiences, no two works are exactly the same -- ever. And there are obviously varying degrees of uniqueness/creativity, which is observable to one in proportion to their knowledge and experience with said art form(s). (Beethoven is a much more unique phenomenon in music history than Coldplay ... etc ... though one might not realize this without any further knowledge/experiences to compare to, such as if Coldplay and Beethoven were the first two music artists they discovered and hadnt moved further from that yet.) _________________ Best Classical
