Sorry I was really disappointed with this album. I had a friend at the time who was a big Flaming Lips fan. I like Wayne Coyne's personality and voice but I was never so disappointed from having a big build up to what is supposed to be a fantastic record to actually hearing it.

And I had wanted so much to like it...

Soft Bulletin is a better album I reckon. I like some of their mad, quirky early stuff better. But I don't listen to too much Flaming Lips.

Although I have to say that one time, late at night I put Flaming Lips live into Youtube. After 25 mins I fell asleep with the music playing. I woke up feeling strangely refreshed!! Maybe they're better live Idk.

The Soft Bulletin is definitely better, but then I would argue it's the greatest album ever made. They are amazing live. I saw them last year and it was easily the greatest gig I've ever been to. They're probably my all-time favourite band!

Thats it!! I am going to check out more Flaming Lips live videos. For sure.
And early in the evening so I don't fall asleep.
Maybe I should go back and listen to some of their albums a few more times. I've only heard Yoshimi, Soft Bulletin and At War With the Mystics 2 or 3 times each. Sometimes an album will grow on you.

I remember not thinking too much of Led Zep 3 on first hearing but then it became my fav Led Zep album on repeated listens.

Same happened with Death Grips.

i'm glad it's faired better for you two. i re-listened to it recently (back in february or march, i think), and listened through it three times. there were a couple of tracks that i still liked, but i'm not as fond of the album as a whole as i once was.

i prefer war with the mystics to both. it's a fantastic album. and it's aged much better than yoshimi for my taste.
