My favourite Tom Waits album despite the very un-PC cover. I love Tom Traubert's Blues. It was Rod Stewart's cover of that song and also Downtown Train from Rain Dogs that first got me into Tom Waits. Those and a song from his Bone Machine album that was on a mixtape I got free with a music magazine in '92.
This is a terrific album having elements of his drinking-type songs, his vaudeville songs in Step Right Up, there's some blues and all the usual storytelling elements and brilliant lyrics you associate with Waits. I like his experimental albums too but my favourite phase of his for me is his 70s output. I have only heard just over half his albums so far. A few more still to go.
