I absolutely LOVE: Junta, Hoist, Lawn Boy, Picture Of Nectar, Rift and Joy and I absolutely HATE: Undermind, Round Room, Fuego, Farmhouse, Billy Breathes, Big Boat

They're not bands, but Freddie Gibbs and Wyclef Jean come to mind. More often than not I avoid albums that I think I'm highly unlikely to enjoy, but my list would certainly be longer if I didn't.
EDIT: Never mind, missed the 3-5. _________________ Add me on RYM

Muse and Incubus.
Two bands that I liked a lot when I was 14, but now I wouldn't touch with a 50 ft pole on most days. Some of their songs I still like though.

There are band that meet that criteria, but it seems only on one special condition: these are bands that sold out somewhere along the way, where they started off great and then turned sour, usually in the mid '80s. I can't think of any that intermingled the good and the bad, it was more like a switch from good to bad.
I'm thinking bands like:
Jefferson Starship
ZZ Top
Heart
Whitesnake

Mine was mainly a switch from loving the early phish to hating most of the later day output with one real good one thrown into the back half

Funny on Phish: Billy Breathes is my absolute favorite (I discovered them with this album) and also the other albums you hate are my favorites Of the ones you love Picture of Nectar is my favorite.

I can really only think of Paul McCartney and U2 is getting there.
Dig Paul McCartney's work with The Beatles, less interested as he went solo. Hate is probably a strong word.
U2 dies somewhere between 1999 and 2009 (for some it's 1985 or 1991) and I can't stand their material afterwards... but actually somehow get back into it like an abusive relationship... hehe.
So perhaps my response isn't I hate them, but somehow they real me into a bad relationship and I should hate them, but Stockholm Syndrome...

Can second Wyclef. I really dig his work with the Fugees and then his first solo album, and maybe a song or two after this, but then he just turned into garbage.
I think some say this about NAS too.

A lot of rappers who've been around long enough to misguidedly hop on contemporary trends (and then equally misguided attempts at "back to basics" records). _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
