Great song by Superchunk. But it doesn't stand a chance for me against one of the best songs on one of the best albums of the year. That's a fan-made video with audio quality that could be better, so folks might want to find it on streaming.

I wish more of the songs on MGMT's latest would have sounded like this one because I really like this song but never got into any of the others. I guess I'll have a chance to try again though since like four of their songs got nominated.

The Superchunk song was catchy indie rock but a prefer the quirkiness of MGMT.

Not really and Indiepunk kinda' guy, but I'll take Superchunk over what sounds like a totally derivative new wave wannabe that's scarcely a level above a novelty song.

I love Superchunk. That should be obvs. I'm a 90s indie rock kid and they were unstoppable for about five albums in the 90s. After that they didn't do much for me. I lost interest besides catching them in concert whenever they popped into town. Even their supposed comeback album from 2010 - Majesty Shredding - that got rave reviews left me underwhelmed. And then this dropped and it became my workout tape of the year. The whole album is totally solid and again I just picked "What A Time To Be Alive" because it was the official single. It's not the best track on the album but it's still great indie punk. A total pleasant surprise seeing them whip up such a great batch of catchy & exhilarating tracks after all this time.

And that MGMT track is dope!!! I really need to dive into that whole album.

both songs are excellent, but i just get more out of the chapel hill indie rock giants than MGMTs experimentation with synthwave of the past

Yeah haven't really payed attention to MGMT since, like, 2010, but this was a pretty aight synth jam. But "What A Time to Be Alive" is a great little indie-rock barn-burner, and tend to put it on repeat a lot more, easily gets my vote here.
