I don't care much for either of these songs but I voted for the Jicks. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. And it's harder as anything else.
Well I can get why she's getting buzz, but I think it's another of the myraid examples of a vaguely promising young artist being hyped as an already ingenious and accomplished songwriter. Especially since there are so many of these late 90s throwback artists these days, the more notable of whom either have a fuller sound or at least something more interesting going on. Defintely doesn't mean she can't keep improving, but the songs just aren't there yet. Pristine is one of the better (or the least... non-descript) tracks of her's, but still a bit too deja vu-ish for it's own good.
Then again I don't think "Middle America" is any great shakes or burst of originality either but at least I can groove to it a bit more (whatever that means), kind of voting by default here
the same people who talk shit on snail mail think something like car seat headrest (which is in the same vein of nostalgia fetishization of how indie rock used to be) is genius. it's a patriarchal double standard.
disclaimer: yes, you are allowed to prefer CSH over SM, but i felt the need to point out the sexist connotations of the double standard of "uninspired rehash of old indie rock" which is not only unfair but unseemly
Both CSH and SM are middling, but SM is more tolerable. The other SM gets my vote. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
