Divine Music From A Jail is about as raw and devestating as music can be. My first thought was that he was singing the blues, and looking around, I wasn’t the first to think it. But I certainly don’t mean that as some base reduction, because what OVO plays is absurdly unique. No doubt, there is some appreciation for this music stranded beyond the language barrier, but not the extremely emotive quality of his voice, which is the essence of it.
