About album of the day: The BestEverAlbums.com album of the day is the album appearing most prominently in member charts in the previous 24 hours. If an album has previously been selected within a x day period, the next highest album is picked instead (and so on) to ensure a bit of variety.
One of my favorite albums and easily one of the best hip hop albums. For me, it's in the class of Pauls Boutique and It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. It's too bad he never made anything remotely as good as this since.

Paul's Boutique is under Illmatic by a long shot. Sorry
And I think Nas only really needed this album...it was the prime of the hip-hop era, and he was a person who really understood what hip-hop was. Most people say he had a big ego and stuff cause he said 'hip-hop's dead'...if anyone else said that, I probably would have shrugged it off (If Lil Wayne said that, he'd be dead cause I would have shot him .. ). But considering Nas said it, you kinda saw the movement happen.
His other stuff is fairly good (mostly 7/10, 6/10 albums), and his recent effort with Damian Marley is quite good.
EDIT: I've noticed, Tupac dosen't get a lot of love on this site, he only has one album in the top 500 and it's in the 400's, I expected him to rank hiher considering how highly he's ranked.
Kanye, Nas, B.I.G. & Outkast were all hip-hop ever needed
Wu-Tang? Beastie Boys? De la Soul? Tribe Called Quest? Public Enemy? Dre? Eric B. and Rakim? c'mon Hayden
Oh Ya. Add Wu-Tang to that list. Agreed.
I do respect A Tribe Called Quest & Public Enemy, but they're not in the best-list.
And De La Soul isn't my cup of tea
As for Dr. Dre, Rakim & The Beastie Boys, I have a list of better rappers/groups. Dre has the Chronic (which is pretty much 1/2 Snoop Dogg), which is a good album. But he doesn't have any other good material except for that. Rakim is an ok rapper, nothing special when it comes down to it (Eric B. is a good producer though, but I would prefer to leave him out of this). And the Beastie Boys are white-ass-hip-hop Ya, they're fun, and parties are great for them, but they aren't quality hip-hop
All of this, is of course, just my opinion. Also, my original comment wasn't to be taken as 'ONLY' those. Of course we need other rappers and producers to listen to, but I'm just saying I could probably live off those 4.

Eminem ain't that bad... or at least he wasn't.

Ya. Eminem has his moments. But, again, I would put him under the same category as Public Enemy & ATCQ. The Slim Shady LP is a hair away from my top 100.
And Tupac is pretty useless Lol, I feel like such a troll right now I'm just shooting you guys down.
Tupac NEVER did anything good. I honestly don't understand how he even got famous. All Eyez On Me is quite lame, and that's pretty much his best.
Considering I'm not going to be very popular after this post ( ),here's a list of rappers that I recommend people listen to :
Kanye, Nas, Wu-Tang (+members solo), outkast, & BIG, etc...
Deltron 3030
Elzhi
P.O.S.
MF Doom
Mos Def (& Black Star)
The Roots
Gang Starr
I also think that Jay-Z can have his moments, and he's pretty high up their on my hip-hop list. It just felt wrong not to mention him in this post. _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!
