I remember seeing Home performed on David Letterman or something and thought the couple performed well together. It was cute.
In some ways I really loved it and in other ways it was the start of the hey ho, wowie woh music getting really popular and it just felt so canned when I'd hear it on the radio. But I really like her voice still.
So while Home has these moments, it also feels a bit Hallmark.
Really tough call here between two really cool tracks. Both build and elevate nicely through their run time. In the end, Tatu just grabs me a little more.
The Tatu song was a lot of fun, probably my favorite discovery of the tournament. The Edward Sharpe song sounds like everything that was annoying about rock in the early 2010s, just done a little better. Easy vote for Tatu. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. Contestant 1 is two teenagers (one a minor at the time) pretending to be lesbians in a music video featuring schoolgirl outfits and wet t-shirts. It somehow combines sexualization of children + fake lesbianism produced for the male gaze. Nauseating.
Contestant 2 is neo-hippies from California doing their thing, and I could extend that commentary but I'll just leave it at that.
But on a musical level, both songs, despite being annoying and cheesy, are really good in spite of themselves... I slightly prefer Home, although I used to unreservedly love it back in 2013 or so. _________________ Add me on RYM
