An chart about which I have mixed emotions.

I would say that the writer is deprecating himself when he says:

Quote:
“Hipsters and snobs: feel free to downvote at how mainstream I am.”

Whilst the list does have a lot of mainstream choices, it is not devoid of surprises and records which I am not familiar with from other sources on this site, like The Payback (though by a famous artist it is more unexpected than my own choice of Dark Magus for Miles Davis), Red, Blue And Yellow, The Famous 1938 Carnegie Hall Jazz Concert and Pieces of a Man (Joe S. Harrington who listed Hot Buttered Soul for its influence on rap completely ignored this frequently cited influence on that genre).

As a one-album-per-artist chart, it is good to see no “cheating” of that rule by including albums from artists sharing personnel.

On the other hand, there are a lot of really stereotyped choices here that I have zero affinity for, like The White Stripes, Pink Floyd, Coldplay, Radiohead, Oasis, The Smiths and even perhaps Harvest and Pink Moon (Drake’s debut Five Leaves Left is a much better album for me). It is refreshing actually to not see the Sex Pistols and the Ramones here.
