The Malkmus track is palatable, clever and fun, like most of his 21st century stuff, but I think he could never break that ceiling back to his former greatness and this track is still just merely quite pleasent. May still be easier to stomach for some than the more attention-getting shocks of Yonkers, but that's an infinitely more engaging, arresting number.
The day this song and video came out, it was all anybody was talking about at university. Still holds up. Better than Igor anyway; fucking tasteful snoozefest.
Nice Malkmus is nice, but as agw2 alluded to above it's just not capturing the Pavement stuff, whereas 'Yonkers' really felt - and still does feel - fresh and new. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

Yes to all of these. It was just everywhere at the time. I wasn't that much into hip hop, but it was one of those that I had on repeat regardless. I think 212 was another one like that, where it shouldn't be "my thing" at all. While there are might be other songs that I prefer nowadays, it's just one of those songs that come to mind when I think about those years.
