- Post subject: Scott Walker and Serge Gainsbourg Inflences and Influencees
|
Hello all. I'm breaking many years of radio silence by me on this forum to humbly request some suggestions.
I've been listening to a lot of Serge Gainsbourg and Scott Walker these months. Obviously these are seminal artists for most. However for me, in particular, I can see they play a huge role in the music that's special to me.
I'm trying to organise a playlist that highlights their role as the common denominator in so much of the music of which I listen. Moreover, I'm interested in trying to unearth some of those influencees that I haven't picked up yet.
So far I have:
Beck (Paper Tiger), Nick Cave (Where The Wild Roses Grow), The Divine Comedy (Something for the Weekend), Pulp (Bad Cover Version), Blur (To The End), Arctic Monkeys (Four Out of Five), Tindersticks (Tiny Tears), David Holmes (Don't Die Just Yet), Bridgette Bardot (Moi de Joue), Morrissey (Everyday Is Like Sunday), Radiohead (Daydreaming), Massive Attack (Teardrop), Air (Sexy Boy), Bowie (In The Heat of the Morning), Phoenix (Love Like A Sunset), Carla Bruni (the most popular with the long name I'm not bothered looking up how to spell) and Jane Birkin (L'Anamour, solo version).
Any thoughts or comments on this are welcome. _________________ If you're reading this, that probably means that I had something to say.

The Belgian Gainsbourg is Arno who died this year at the age of 72 but performed until his last moments and when he was already ill. His last album which was released just before his death was a testament of that:

All the more interesting because Arno was also loved in France as the Belgian Gainsbourg and he had a bit the same "bad boy" image.
