I'm mostly into obscure punk, such as Rich Kids on LSD (or RKL). There's no good reason for them to stay underground. I'd probably even say they're a better hardcore band than Dead Kennedys.

If you want to find some older cool obscure bands, check out the charts of steppenwolf666. He has lots of nice psychedelic albums listed and has some of my favorites on his overall chart, such as Armageddon's self titled (and only) album.

Your favorite obscure band is a weebish crunkcore band and you're ashamed to admit it. Wink

yeah, it really depends on how obscure you want to go, but i'll indulge. none of these are particularly obscure relative to their scenes, but to outsiders of those scenes, i'd say they're pretty obscure. for what that's worth. a handful of my favorite relatively obscure bands:

bel canto [dream pop, ethereal wave]
cloud cult [indie rock, chamber pop]
a neon rome [post-punk, gothic rock]
.o.rang [post-rock]
red stars theory [post-rock, slowcore]
spartan fidelity [indie rock]
ugly casanova [indie rock]
valravn [folktronica]

I'm glad you said Bel Canto. Believe it or not my favorite Bel Canto song is from one of their least well known albums, Magic Box. I like the ethereal waves albums more than Magic Box but this is just amazing.

That's some of the funkiest shit.

i put magic box on the same plateau as birds and shimmering/warm/bright. it's a beautiful record.
