Epic masterpiece or redundant, overblown pretension? This album understandably divided audiences. I really like it, but as a triple CD with nearly three full hours of modern jazz, it's not for the faint of heart or those with short attention spans.

I got to revisit this real soon. Though I have a weird feeling that I prefer his 2018 album Heaven and Earth more than The Epic. But they are both ambitious and quite impeccable for the 2010's. I'd argue Heaven and Earth is oddly manageable? Do listen to them both. Especially since lock down knocked out most of our normal lives.

I've never listened to it because of its lengths. It's not that I have a short attention span, it's just that I can listen to 3-4 brilliant albums in that time. _________________ All time

Long, yes-but not really such an effort. I actually thought it would be a bit more cosmic (given the cover) but seemed more a tour of classic jazz and fusion styles.. The album seemed to stretch out quite naturally without seeming over-indulgent and it sustained my interest for a few listens (I also plan to revisit). I was surprised by the 70s soul vibes in places (quite Stevie) but I enjoyed them quite a bit.

I can't help but find most of the music on his release just absolutely stellar. I don't often return to the full project, but it's a landmark. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.
