I may be biased, as I'm a total Costello fanatic (less so than a few years ago, but nevertheless). However, I'm of the opinion that this is a classic and one of the great debut albums. Alison is rightly one of his most beloved songs, and there is no filler. Brilliant. _________________ Top 40 Greatest Music Albums by indieshins
It's a lot of fun, if largely a little one-note, and it does work as a fascinating midpoint between the very British pub rock sound of Dr. Feelgood and the decidedly more American New Wave of acts like Blondie. Lots of clever turns of phrase and catchy hooks, but almost everything about his music would become far more interesting and intelligent and polished later, often with much greater results. _________________ 2021 in full effect.
