I'm just glad Perfect Blue made the cut this time around (wasn't on the last list...). I agree that I would have liked to see it a bit higher though.

Princess Mononoke hit #10 at somepoint or another, but never stuck. Don't remember it ever being higher than that. I must admit, I thought Whisper of The Heart would be much higher, perhaps even top 50. Animated films in general seemed to be a little underloved this time around. I figured The Lion King would be considerably higher, and A Nightmare Before Christmas wasn't close at all despite being on our previous list. A Bug's Life, Mulan, Beauty and The Beast, and Aladdin were never in the top 100 at any point. Disney may just be shooting their reputation in the foot with the remakes. Ghost In The Shell, End of Evangelion and Porco Rosso weren't really in major contention either. Not sure what to tell ya.

Being said, Japan was the most represented country after the USA, followed by France.

I mean, fair.

These lists have been becoming less of "casual" observations, so there's at least that much to take solace in.

I wonder how many people rewatched/watched 90s stuff during the month and a half we had to compose our lists?

Saw Only Yesterday for the first time last night (bought it and four other new Studio Ghibli Blu-rays at a stoop sale near me a few weeks ago for a buck apiece!), pmed Hayden around midnight asking him to add it to my list. Loved it.

And it was tallied Smile (Just realized I didn't PM you back... mentioned the update in the final post of the poll thread though).

I did. Made a list of about 15 films I wanted to get through and think I saw all but two. Think the only rewatches I got around to were The Piano and La Promesse... wasn't sure exactly where to place them.

Must admit, I think I may be completely overlooking Twelve Monkeys. I haven't seen it. Probably should have gotten around to that one for the poll... Gilliam's two other 90s films are fantastic, and they even didn't make the cut (one of which is in my top 15...). Should get on that soon.

Oh, I had no worries about you tallying it, from its placement and the fact that I pmed you well before CA posted his list. Smile My post was a reply to Gowi's about Japanese animation.

I completely expected Fallen Angels to make the cut. And it was only on two lists! Shocked TWO! I think Fallen Angels is easily one of the best films of the 90s, and I'm surprised the way BEA's Wong Kar-Wai preferences swung. For the longest time I was the only person with it on their list. Made me kinda sad Laughing. It's not like it's a crazy obscure pick or anything either. Happy Together did decently, but I'm surprised Days of Being Wild was the second fav of the bunch.

I too thought that fallen angels would make the cut instead of days of being wild, but it being on only two lists is a bit of a shock. It didnt mesmerise me like Chunking or Happy together but it's a pretty great film.

And i would die to see a Ming-liang film here, i think all 4 of his 90s films are on my list, and he's one of the greatest things to come out of the 90's. So i recommend his films violently to anyone who's never seen them.

Finally, i'm happy beau travail at least made the cut. When you first posted the thread with the original list, i went through it immediately to see if Chunking and Beau were in there. So didn't expect that it would be like in the 60s than 90-100 range. I believe i was the only one to have it on top 5.

The Hole was a runner-up Sad (in the 101-105 range). It was actually on the list until yesterday morning.

Thanks CA, appreciate the stats Smile

I'd take the new list over the old one any day. I think we did a decent job here.
