I checked this album out.

I like the fact that they have a female drummer Very Happy

This is another good song on 16 Lovers Lane

My Aunty got me into the Go-Betweens about 25 years ago and I think they are fabulous. I could never understand why they weren't absolutely huge and why noone else in the UK knew who they were!

'Streets of Your Town' is one of my all time favourite songs...

The best record from my favourite Australian band. "Clouds" is a beautiful ballad, "Streets of Your Town" and "Was There Anything I Could Do?" are ideal pop songs. They should have been huger for sure.

Robert Forster's solo albums are well worth checking out. My favourite is Danger In The Past, but there is no weak one.

Grant MacLennan's solo works are somewhat inferior I think, still there are great pop songs in them (he was more of the group's uplift pop song writer, whereas Forster was more of the ballad guy).

Sadly Mclennan died in 2006 before he was even 50.

This album somehow caused the split of The Go-Betweens. Ego issues. Forster, who wrote "Clouds", thought it should be the single. The record company chose "Was There Anything I Could Do?", written by McLennan, to the fury of Forster. Retrospectively, even if "Clouds" is my favourite song from the LP, "Was There Anything I Could Do?" has the obviousness of the would-be hit single in it. What do you think ?

Romance had also its responsibility in the split, but I won't delve into that.

Anyhow, The Go-Betweens would get together again twelve years later, with The Friends of Rachel Worth.

They are my favourite Australian Band too. Smile

I still think I prefer 'Liberty Belle' but this runs a very very close second.

As a Londoner, I followed the band the moment they arrived here. They had a small but loyal underground following. 'Before Hollywood' is their best album and it's in my top 100 chart.

I think a lot of Go-Between fans are split on their best album but this was the first one I bought of theirs. Only heard Liberty Belle and Before Hollywood this year. Favourite song of theirs is this one:
