Yeah I've definitely heard a lot of praise for Atmosphere, including from hip hop fans. And I went to school near Minnesota so I knew a lot of people who were big fans and considered them a hip underground group. But still:

"Been the shit ever since I was an infant in diapers"

"I got my mind on my tummy and my tummy on my mind"

Like I said, love that album though, and the lameness is part of the charm for me.

A lot of Slug's best verses are on this.

The Taste Of Rain... Why Kneel? by Deep...e Dynamics

Doseone is on this album too. Is Anticon lame in general, because everybody on the label is trying too hard to be an "artistic" rapper?

Out of all the acts on this list, give me Black Eyed Peas, Justin Timberlake, Aqua-specifically there debut, Bruno Mars- mostly 24K Magic but some of hits hits before that were great ie Treasure, Lockout Of Heaven, Nothin On You.

Also would take Coldplay as well as Craig David but there would be other acts I'm kind of curious.

Great. Although I'm talking about DW&H-era Bruno Mars.

Y'all can add me to the fan list for the Carpenters as well as the fan list for Huey Lewis and the News too. I love their Time Flies album.

God bless you and them and Richard Carpenter always!!!

Holly

P.S. The Christmas Portrait album from the Carpenters is the first Christmas album that I remember hearing when I was still a kid and so for me, the Christmas season is not complete if it isn't played.

Flaming Lips

Ehh, I don't think it's so much that the flaming lips aren't cool as much as it is Wayne Coyne's generally a loser scumbucket. Without his constant fake new age persona coupled with secretly crony sic 'em-ing and sycophantic tendencies they'd probably be as cool as mercury rev.

I haven't heard that album fully. But that final track with Cee Lo Green looks like it could be a keeper.

Yeah, he's a total asshole. They're also generally too concerned with gimmickry to be cool. In A Priest Driven Ambulance is cool, however.

Hard agree. Priest is cool. I'd probably add Transmissions From a Satellite Heart too. Not as consistent as Clouds Taste Metallic but Transmissions has that we're describing an ego death experience at the end of the world on Slow Nerve Action that just feels slick looking back.

I feel like anything remotely uncool that I love I subconsciously turn into some sort of ironic signifier, whether it be Train, Joan Osborne, or Van Halen. And then suddenly in my mind I become oblivious to how uncool it is.

I also unironically adore
