Here's another example of why 50 is too many. Now Applerill and AMAY couldn't find 50 good entries (AMAY's bottom movies are only getting 1 star from him, lol). I'm in the same boat. I can make a list of 50, but I prefer not to fill it out with stupid crap at the bottom just to give the top movies more points. C'mon Hayden. Just make it 30 (or 40). Laughing

If everyone says ay to a 40-cap, I'm cool. Smile Nothing wrong with quality over quantity.

(Will get on the rest of everyone's posts once the site is at full speed)

I don’t have any issue coming up with 50 personally.

Yeah, I originally had a top 50 I loved, but I didn’t understand Hayden’s rules, so I decided to just be safe and include the ones that had their first showings in 2020.

Sad

I try to make the rules as simple as possible. I was just trying to get across that a lot of films that might be labelled 2019 in some places will still be eligible. I was trying to be more inclusive tbh. If you think a film deserves to be on your list, put it on. Don't take to rules too harshly. Post the full 50.

I would like to keep it at 50 (in line with other years, which always turn out), but if there is anymore consensus 50 is too much for 2020, we'll cut it to 40. By all means, send lists of 50 (or if you have a full 100 somewhere, there's no harm in sharing). If people think 50 is reasonable, we'll stick to it, if not (because of delayed films, lack of cinemas being open, etc), we'll drop to 40. I'll give it a bit of thought myself.

I should note, whether or not lists are capped at 40 or 50, you don't need to send a list of 40 or 50. 10, 25, 30, 47, whatever. All good.

Did the small screen impact your viewing this year?
Of course, in positive and negative ways. It was nice that so many titles found their way onto streaming platforms. However, opportunities for more engrossing theater experiences were missed.

What was the last film you saw in a cinema?
The Invisible Man, March 13, 2020. Two days later all indoor theaters in LA closed. It's been a year and they still haven't reopened, ugh.

Is streaming an actual war? And who will eventually bomb who? Discuss.
Figuratively, yes. Hard to say "who will eventually bomb who." It seems the major streaming services have each cornered a market for themselves, which should keep them all solvent. I think creating original content is the key for them. Netflix has all their self-produced docs and stand-up comedy specials, while creating other fiction content. Disney+ has most of the major franchises, which they'll endlessly create movies/shows for. HBO Max has a firm grip over the adult-targeted TV market, plus all the WarnerMedia content. Prime creates plenty of their own content and has the financial power to keep/expand streaming rights over other content...they're basically too big to fail at this point. Hulu may lose some status but they're owned by Disney anyway. Relative newcomers Peacock and Paramount+ are off to a good start. I can see mergers happening down the road, but they all seem to be fine for now.

I would have loved to have seen Soul, Minari, Druk, Days, and Emma on the big screen. Think it would change the experience of all of them.

The Invisible Man might be on my watchlist for this poll. Seems to be one of the more popular films this year I glossed over.

As for streaming, I have a feeling (which I was originally sceptical on, and evidently wrong) the two at the top will end up being Netflix and Disney+. I think Amazon and HBO will be second, and Peacock and Paramount+ will struggle. I don't believe most people want to subscribe to more than 3 and will be tapped out after choosing the ones with the most content. (Might be wrong, this was by no means a conducted study, just a hunch). It'll be interesting to see what happens. I also think Hulu will be merged into Disney+ within the near future. Ultimately I think we're going to boil down to a system very similar to subscription cable in the future though Laughing

WoT aside, everything's good Razz

And thanks for the list AgainstMeAgainstYou. Once we settle on the list size, I'll tally both of those.

Time, Saint Maud, She Dies Tomorrow and Athlete A are all in my queue (the last three very recently added).

So my list is 31 total, apologies for the weird number. I've found at least one source claiming each of these is a 2020 film, but if you feel it necessary to drop any of them I won't complain.

4. The Wolf House
5. Nomadland
6. The Man Who Sold His Skin
7. Rocks
8. Bill and Ted Face the Music

12. Better Days
13. The Life Ahead
14. Personal History of David Copperfield
15. Pinocchio
16. On the Rocks
17. About Endlessness
18. Tenet
19. The Whistlers
20. Weathering With You
21. Feels Good Man
22. A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon
23. Boys' State
24. Love and Monsters
25. The Godfather Coda
26. Ma Rainey's Black Bottom

I didn't want that to be an issue Laughing I honestly thought it would ease restrictions. It's just so people don't worry about submitting things like Sound of Metal, Collective, The Wolf House, The Vast of Night, First Cow, About Endlessness, etc...

I'll get your list on the board Smile (and by all means, there's over a month left, feel free to add anything whenever).

And yeah. Mank won't be on my list either. I'd never trash the film, but it's remarkably middle road.
