This album was recommended to me years ago, and for whatever reason, at the time it just didn't resonate for me. I thought the title track was beyond boring, and the rest was fine but nothing really stood out.

And now... Well idk what I was smoking back then, but now I think this is brilliant. The title track is even better on some of their live albums, and the rest of the tracks are as funky as Parliament/Funkadelic at their best. In addition to "Maggot Brain", "Hit It and Quit It" is a top track for me.

Masterpiece. I did shrooms and listened to this album a bit ago and while I did enjoy the album beforehand, it really made more sense to me during the trip.

I think Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow is better.

For the most part just a brilliant, catchy, fun as fuck classic and one of my favorites in all of 70’s funk. And one of my favorite album covers to boot.

Have to agree Hit It and Quit It is a standout with a phenomenal riff.

I liked the opening but from there it was pretty average for me. I know this album has a huge following, just not my music taste is all. It’s got to be great listening for most as it regularly appears in people’s choices.

Love me some Maggot Brain!
As fantastic as that opener is, the closer stands up well as an equal bookend.
The middle contrasts nicely. Across its breadth, the variety of this album is amazing, all the more so that it's all done at a very high level.

Eddie Hazel is incredible. Jaw dropping guitar on this funk album!
