Re: the comments about the name, I have no problem with it. For decades the music business (record labels, concert venues, stores, etc.) and music critics alike have split music into rock, jazz, and classical when in need of the broadest possible genre categories. This is just one more example of that.
There are no classical musicians in the hall. There are almost no jazz musicians, and they're not in the hall for being jazz musicians. Miles Davis is in for his fusion records, and Nina Simone is in for her soul/blues records. Otherwise, there are no jazz musicians outside of the "Early Influences" category.
One question I have: would Fela be the first inductee not from one of the three continents that contain a "Western" country? _________________ Add me on RYM

Very likely.
I suppose it's Rock n' Roll hall of fame, not Rock Hall of Fame, so that's why I brought it up... it was indeed intentionally celebrating the founders of rock n' roll in the beginning. But yeah I support your thought. Are you kinda saying pop just falls under rock when talking about a very large umbrella? Just meaning rock n' roll kinda was the "first pop" music?

Weird way to put that, but I think so. Surprised Ravi Shankar hasn't been nominated tbh.
Really wish there was some sort of international version of this (that... wasn't so spotty). _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!

I was on their site for the first time (with the link) and saw something about "inspirations" or something... almost like they had a rule for people who recorded pre-album era or something didn't get admitted.
But yeah, how many in there owe their careers to the artists you list, right?
