Great record, but far from their best. Possibly top five. I'd say it's the only Roots album that's not underrated on BEA. _________________ Add me on RYM

I agree. I prefer Illadelph Halflife, Undun, Game Theory, Phrenology, maybe even Do You Want More?! (etc.), to this one. Still a good record. _________________ Top 40 Greatest Music Albums by indieshins

Agreed with what some others have said.
I think the highs on Things Fall Apart are The Roots at their best, same with Phrenology. But both of these albums have a decent bit of filler and the quality isn't as consistent.
I think in that vein, Game Theory and How I Got Over are also in contention for their best. Unlike their album ranking here on BEA, I'm not a fan of Undun. I think it sort of continued the experimental stuff from How I Got Over without keeping the stuff that made that album great.
I do think that The Roots' trajectory from conscious hip-hop to the backing band for Jimmy Fallon's late show is... odd. Though if anyone has seen the Questlove-produced documentary on the Harlem Cultural Festival of 1969, it's a really well done film (or "jawn"). _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!
