- Post subject: Music Websites
|
This is a pretty broad topic that I'm starting to find out what are some good Music Websites out there?
I know that is a rather vague question, so to help describe what I'm getting at, I'll tell you some of the best ones I know of:
www.rateyourmusic.com a way to catalogue, rate, discuss, and find music
www.last.fm/ catalogues every song you play digitally and compiles a list of artists you listen to the most then connects you with neighbours who listen to the same bands. If anyone is using Last.FM I would like to add you as a friend. My username is Elstonn (ya, two n's)
My favourite sites for finding good music:
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/search/pi...0%20albums
http://www.scaruffi.com/music.html
http://www.robertchristgau.com/xg/pnj/index.php
and this site of course, the forums as well as the lists
What other sites are a good way of finding music?

www.pandora.com - internet radio where you put in the name of an artist, and they'll make a playlist of similar musicians. its pretty good for finding new artists and also lets you listen to new music for free
www.emusic.com - decent selection but great price being as low as 25 cents a song. its one of my favorite sources for digital music

I found a lot of good stuff on eMusic a couple of months ago. I was mainly looking for new releases and world music and it seems to have quite an exhaustive supply. However, their credit system is annoying and I'm reluctant to sign up. _________________ no fat chicks

Lastfm does exactly that same thing. I never let Lastfm do the "search through my playlist" thing, though, as I don't know their revenue model but am willing to bet it has to do with getting you to allow their cookies onto your PC. _________________ <(: @ >

The best program for listening to music is really spotify, it streams like 5 million songs or something and you can listen to them all for free in your computer, don't know if it's working in the states though... For finding new music i use allmusic and wikipedia, i really don't like Scaruffis site, his ratings are pretty fucked up, he just looks at how original and strange a album is really, i mean how can a person give Chelsea Girls by Nico a 4/10, or ...Endtroducing by DJ Shadow a 7/10... It's kinda fun he likes Kanye West though....
