Another complication to consider: shows that have different versions due to remakes for different countries e.g. The Killing; Homeland; The Office. I think we would basically just need to be clear which version we are voting for.

I would probably include both versions of the Office, but they should be recognised as two different shows.

Seeing as there's countless standards of determining what is and is not a tv series, I propose the simplest and most absolutely straightforward method possible:

If IMDb calls it a "TV series" or a "TV Mini Series" then it's eligible.

M*A*S*H, a network TV series broadcast over years? TV series!
Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog, a 3 episode web show? TV series!
Threads? Nope, that's a TV movie and therefore ineligible.
Pitch Meeting, an ongoing series on YouTube? Apparently a TV series and therefore eligible
Mystery Science Theater 3000? That's TWO TV series and therefore BOTH are eligible.

Don't like it? Then give me another definite standard for inclusion. Otherwise I'm sticking with this.

CriterionForum uses IMDb to determine what films are eligible for decade polls. They acknowledge that IMDb's release dates are occasionally wrong, but it's so simple. Makes everyone's lives easier.

Variety shows aren't going to get many votes, so they're unlikely to make a final list. But if someone wants to vote for one, go for it.

I could open the gate on this as soon as next week if people want to do it.

I mean, we'll have hiccups, but I'm sure it'll still be fantastic.

Maybe the poll would run June through October? Top 100? Maybe a fun side-category, like best score.

I've got a top 75 worked out for sure, I should have it expanded to 100 by next week.

When I don't have to work for a week, this is the kind of stuff that happens.

I... think (??) 100 would be a good number— I just tried to do what Chief did and log every show I've watched, and I don't think I've watched more than ~70-75 shows that I like (of which, I cannot figure an order Laughing)— but even if people can't whip up 100 entries, I think it would be a good number for the overall list.

I also realized I've never watched a TV show pre-Twin Peaks. My list would be wildly lopsided to the 21st century.

If Bozo is cool with me hijacking the concept and whipping up the poll, maybe we could start mid-June? I'd definitely look forward to the recommendations.

Yeah, I can’t think of many old shows that are genuinely in the running d'oh! Fawlty Towers; Monty Python’s flying circus (which has dated badly); Only Fools and Horses; M*A*S*H; Cheers; Taxi (which I have either never seen or just can’t remember); The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perring.

There are not many I would even consider before the mid 90s, yet Twin Peaks is still maybe joint favourite for the win (with The Wire).

If Breaking Bad, 24 or Lost goes better than the Wire I’m quitting BEA Wink

A huge portion of my list is pre-21st century, with a good dose pre-90s as well. Even if they don't score inclusion, hopefully the submissions will help some people get introduced to older shows.

Enjoy. I was only planning on running it if people were interested in participating but no one wanted to run it.
