The new TPAB: the album I see everywhere on the music site of the internet, and whilst I think is just okay-decent, I am getting a bit annoyed, as of knowing how much better music there is out there.

While there ain't no song on here that matches the mastery of Instrumental from their first album, this is more consistent through-and-through. 60/100.

I thought when I heard it the day it came out that I wouldn't hear anything better than it in 2022, and that was what happened despite some other amazing releases that pushed it close (such as the Big Thief, Weyes Blood and Smile records). Last year IMO was the best year for new music in quite a while

I'm with you, man. If I ever get around to making a 2022 chart myself, I doubt this album will even be on it — it's not bad, and I can hear what they're trying to achieve with it and it's commendable, and I certainly don't blame others for liking it. But it just doesn't impress me.

I should say though, "The Place Where He Inserted the Blade" is kind of impressive. But other than that, none of the tracks really stand out, and that one is probably two minutes too long... plus they follow it up with "Snow Globes" which (to me at least) is the worst song on the album, and five minutes too long. Which really sucks, because I actually have a big collection of snow globes. Snow globe collectors the world over have been waiting their entire lives for someone to write and record The Ultimate Greatest Snappy Catchy Snow-Globe Anthem Of All Time, and someday someone's gonna do it, but that track just isn't it.

Anyway...

I was thinking about starting a separate thread to make a list (and possibly a chart!) of albums like this one that have clear plastic resealable bags on their album covers, since that's very unusual. For most people — even album cover designers — clear plastic bags in general are kind of a turn-off, aesthetically speaking, and if they're closable or resealable that just makes it even worse. But I didn't want to make a big fuss or anything, and frankly the whole idea is rather silly.

Still, I wonder if anyone remembers this album:
