Well for me, January 2024 was all about the discovery of Bill Ryder-Jones & Marika Hackman! Two insanely singular talents with consistently good discogs who weren't even on my radar before. I can see both of their albums making many a end of year best of 2024 list. Also The Smile and Ty Segall continue to kick ass. That Smile album is pretty much an instant classic actually.
What was your favorite album(s) of January 2024?

Sadness Sets Me Free by Gruff Rhys
.. to this list. this is some killer eccentric singer-songwriter stuff. Kind of a throwback to the 70s. I'm going to have explore a bit of his back catalog. Anyone have any thoughts on Gruff Rhys and where I should start? He's totally new to me.

Ok. It's going to be really hard for anything to surpass this little beauty this week ...

Other than the new Chelsea Wolfe album, which is pretty good but not earth-shattering, the only thing that registered on my VU meters was the Pylon Reenactment Society.

Vanessa Briscoe Hay is the only original Pylon member in the PRS, but as long as they have her, and they're trying, I think they'll sound enough like the old Pylon to satisfy most fans.

It's really, really good. I think fans of Drive-By Truckers might dig it.

Nice! I haven't thought of Pylon in ages. Will give it a listen later today!

We're riding the hot hand and putting Repo's rec up for Week 6. Another one I haven't heard of. I think the Smile is the only band I've heard in the ALC so far.
