This is my favorite version of "Unchained Melody". It's by Al Green and it's from 1973.

I always liked his covers of country hits. Like these ones by Hank Williams and Ray Price. Both were great songs to begin with.

Six Days On The Road
written by Earl Green & Carl Montgomery

This cover version was recorded for the soundtrack of the film Planes, Trains & Automobiles by Steve Earle in 1987.

The original was not a hit, and came from a not very popular singer named Paul Davis in 1961.

I never knew that anyone else ever did that song other than the late and legendary Dave Dudley and this awesome act who released their first song on the radio 40 years ago.

Here's the original version by Louise Cordet from 1964 and I personally don't like this version at all. I'm only posting it because it's the original version.

Nothing beats this one. One of my favorite '60s records ever.

The Gloria Estefan version is still my personal favorite.

Willie Nelson had a big hit with this song in 1982. From the album

Always On My Mind by Willie Nelson

This is the first time I've heard the original version. I like it much better. Willie Nelson has written some great songs, but I have never liked his singing. I also like the Elvis Presley version.

You're No Good
written by Clint Ballard Jr.

Van Halen was not the first to cover this, nor was their version from 1979 a hit. Nor was it even close to being the best. But here we are. Linda Ronstadt had a number one hit with it in 1974. This version may be the strangest, with Van Halen reimagining it as a hard rock song. It's from the album

Van Halen II by Van Halen

The original is far more interesting. This was released in 1963, by the lesser known sister of Dionne Warwick. (This makes her also the niece of Cissy Houston, and the cousin of Whitney Houston and Leontyne Price.) Dee Dee Warwick made five solo albums between 1967 and 1984, none of which was very successful. She had a handful of top 10 R&B singles in the late 60's, and that's about it. "You're No Good" was her first single, reaching just #117 in the charts in 1963.

Dee Dee's version was released in September of 1963. Betty Everett released a version just a few weeks later in October of 1963 that was a hit.

The Linda Ronstadt version is my favorite version.

"I've Got to Use My Imagination" by Gladys Knight & The Pips is one of my favorite oldies. It was released in November of 1973. I just found out this is a cover version.

The original version is by the writer of the song, Barry Goldberg & it was released a few weeks earlier in October of 1973. I don't like this original version.

Oh, wow. I was able to get 2 videos into one video to show up in the preview this time, so it looks like it's going to work this time.
