How many views does it take to make Inception intelligible?

it's just like how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop: it's different for everyone. Most just give up and bite through to the center, i.e. place a half-assed interpretation they feel OK with on the film

For fuck's sake, why does everyone think that Inception is so impenetrable? It really isn't that complicated.

Loved it on first view. Great, albeit easily accusable of riding on a populist wave, piece of movie history.

It's a faux-intellectual James Bond movie, there's not really a lot to get.

How is it pretending to be intellectual? Is this a reaction to the movie itself or a reaction to how other people talk about it?

To me it is

Sort of both. They kind of make a show of trying to explore the human psyche when in fact it all boils down to "the human brain is like a videogame, here's the snow level, grenade launcher power-up achieved." That said I blame the movie's reputation much more on the people who raved about it more than the movie itself.

There's a review that sums up practically every problem I had with the movie: http://www.factualopinion.com/the_factu...oming.html

This quote in particular nails it:

Quote:
Over and over again, with Hans Zimmer's ridiculously obnoxious score throbbing alongside him, he keeps plastering cool images all over the screen, exhorting his actors to kill their way across his giant chessboard, and yet he never creates any rules for them to play by, and whenever he starts to worry that you might have picked up on that, he switches to checkers instead. Did you think going off the bridge was important? It wasn't, because they can hit the water and be okay. Did you think dying in a dream would be a problem? It's not, so you can leave DiCaprio's sleeping body in a river without oxygen and he'll be fine.

I guess I never bothered to analyze it or listen to what others had to say about either it's superiority or inferiority.

In the end though the entertainment value of watching the movie is 5/5.
