I don't think any bands today can be anything like the Velvet Underground, Clash, Beatles, etc. Music is too stale these days. Especially the mainstream stuff. It's been the same shit for, like, 10 years. Rap is dead. No room for new stuff. Know what I mean?
Maybe I'm wrong. Please tell me why

every single fantastic album to come out since the beginning of music was usually given 3 and half stars by rolling stone and many other magazines. u have to w8 a few years (or longer) to see the effect of a band. a lot of indie bands from rite now will be regarded as some of the best bands ever later on down the road.
Indie Bands today really are coming up with music that is new and genius but reviewers feel as though they can't give 5 stars to albums because it will cause dispute. Many reviews are messed up now. Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, New Kids On The Block, maroon 5, avril lavigne, and many other crap artists get great reviews while bands such as arcade fire, interpol, fleet foxes, red house painters, liars etc get 4 stars at most even though they are 19037841208289 times the band avril lavigne will ever be.
I do agree that rap is basically dead in the mainstream, because these artists are more interested fame and money than making a good record but underground rap is still very good (MF Doom, Quasimoto, Cannibal Ox etc) and there is prob still a lot more that can be done with rap but it will likely be underground when it does happen.

While I don't agree that music has been stale for the past 10 years (I really love a lot of the Indie stuff that is coming out now) he does have a point. As I understand he is saying that unless there is a major shift to a completely new style of music it would nearly impossible for a band to receive the universal acclaim (both commercial and critical) of a band like The Beatles.

I don't really listen to indie stuff so I wouldn't know.
Even waiting a few years, I don't see what bands would come out as, like, really good

John, I think we should change our band name to something more abstract
Anyway Max the two most important members of the band have meetings all the time

There are many great new bands and albums. You have to dig deeper. Maybe u dont realise but even today there are bands that will be remembered, lets say in 30-50 years. Tv on the Radio just released their 3rd studioalbum and its awesome again! The White Stripes, damn how many good albums. Untrue by Burial seems to be a good match for dj Shadows Entroducing and Amon Tobins albums. Blood Mountain by Mastodon is in my oppinion better than any of Slayers and Metallica albums. Its nothing to whine about and yes, we all hope some day there will be a flawless popgroup like the Beatles(im gonna throw up).
