Coyne's right, and Cobain would agree with him. Kurt hated Nevermind; he thought the production turned it into, in his own words, "a fucking Motley Crue album." _________________ I love all music. It makes you feel like living. Silence is death.

Meh. It doesn't upset me at all. I love Sgt. Peppers and Nevermind, but I have no problem with other people not liking them. Variety is the spice of life, apparently.

No, see, I wasn't taking issue with the fact that Coyne called it overrated. That's a fair opinion, though I personally think it's a fundamentally perfect album that's UNDERrated, if anything. But he compared it to Nickelback. Which isn't okay.

I actually agree with Coyne...
reading back over the over-rated list, I agree pretty much with what they say about every album except for Mellon Collie & Californication. _________________ "Bunch of opinionated, hipster twats!"

I think the list's pretty spot on, even Nevermind - a good rock album, for sure, but not much more than that from where I stand.
I have my doubts about Sgt. Pepper's though. It is so often put into "overrated" lists that I fear it might become shortly really underrated instead. But that's personal I guess, I love Sgt. Pepper's, although I agree it's not their best. Now, if any other band than the Beatles had released Sgt. Pepper's, the record would be called a hidden gem probably.

The fact that the writer finds Billy Ray Cyrus underrated and calls Achy Breaky Heart a good song voids his opinion on anything else he may have said.

So actually what he is trying to say on the nevermind album and I quote: ' all I see is dead people'
What a douche you have to listen to the music and not to the fact that Kurt was depressed --'

Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips was asked to select his most overrated album by The Guardian, and he selected Nevermind: ''I never get out Nevermind and think: what great production, what great songs. Nevermind had a poisonous, pernicious influence. It legitimized suffering. The sainthood of Kurt Cobain overshadows the album: Kurt's lyrics, his attitudinising and navel-gazing, were hard to separate from the band's image. You can never just hear the record. For me, Bleach and In Utero are superior. Even the album cover seems cheap: that stupid dollar bill just seems to have been airbrushed in there. If Alice in Chains had done it, we'd have thought it was a joke, but because it was Nirvana we thought it was oh-so-clever. If you think you're going to hear an utterly original, powerful and freaky record when you put on Nevermind, as a young kid might, Christ you're going to be disappointed. You're going to think, ''Who is this band that sounds just like Nickelback? What are these drug addicts going on about?''
I didn't realise that Wayne Coyne was such an arsehole? I mean I remember him having a go at Arcade Fire a while back, but this quote really shows his true colours coming out |
Now I love him even more (Wayne Coyne).

...wait, because of the Nirvana thing or the drug thing?
I'm totally on his side about the Nevermind thing, but considering the amount of drugs the Flaming Lips take I feel it would be a little hypocritical of any of them to refer to other musicians as "drug addicts". _________________ A dick that's bigger than the sun.
