People complain about bumping old threads.
If you start limiting people's abilities to start new threads with the threat of being chewed out for it, you are limiting the growth of your board...and your community.
Archiving is a great idea for places like this. |
Ditto.

yes, going start doing this once the next site update is released (this week). This will affect any threads without a new reply within the last 12 or 18 months (not decided which yet, but probably 18 to err on the side of caution). I think this will help keep the forums a bit tidier and discussion can then be between existing members.

What's being proposed is to auto-lock threads after a set time period of inactivity. this means threads from fours ago that are still active won't be affected, but those 'lost' threads that people have forgotten about and haven't been touched in over a year can be archived.
If the subject needs to be raised again, it can be created afresh (and people can still quote older threads if they want to). I think that's what most people are asking for here, and it sounds sensible, and I think it's just about better housekeeping. If you go to page 60 onwards (approx) in the music forum, you can see most of these threads have run their course and that's approx where the cut-off will be.

I'm sorry, but I'll have to say a big, fat NO to this.
I don't like the auto-locking idea.
We should have a vote for this.

Nape, you do realize this doesn't have much to do with censorship, right?
