That's the strangest video I've ever seen Gary.

What about Portishead? I mean that's just the name of a town, that's not very original, and a bit weird.

Broken Social Scene (we cut each others wrists)

Brokencyde ("The name of the band supposedly originated from the idea that their music was "broke inside" due to personal problems". ugh)

Bombay Bicycle Club (so indie)

Beach Boys (come on...)

Beastie Boys (seriously, nothing with "Boys" in the name please)

(whoops more than three)

And that's only the 'b' section Very Happy

Maybe I have an issue with this letter Think

These are all bad:

Live (too forgettable, much like their music though)
Switchfoot (uhh...let's think of a cool name. Hey! Surfing is cool...and with this inside term we seem cool too)
Vampire Weekend (yeah...vampires are popular with the kids at the moment. You'll be a fad too)

Hmmm... First of all, it's impossible to remove your bias from the equation Shame on you , but also I would argue the name suits them well. They are named for an international political incident (Google U-2 spy plane),so it 's kind of fitting that a band that would go on to be an overt political band would have a name with political connotations. Also, their name could be taken to mean that "you too" are invited into their club,or this involves you too, a spirit of inclusiveness (perhaps I'm stretching there though).

Let's see... bad names:

1. Sonic Youth --love the band, but if you're going to have longevitiy, as this band has, maybe it's problematic to have "Youth"in your name. Also, it sounds like a made-up name, or something a kid would come up with, not reflective at all of the band's musical imagination.
2. Limp Bizkit (This have to be one of the worst names ever, not to mention worst bands ever)
3. Echo and the Bunnymen (Someone was trying way too hard!)

If you're in a band, I think it's hard to come up with a name that hasn't been taken, let alone sounds good or fits the personality of the band. and then getting three or more people to agree on the name? Sheesh!

Having said all that, I also think the name is the least important part of a band's identity. It's fairly inconsequential, really, unless when you're starting out, you call yourselves "Free Beer" to promote a night club show (but that's been done before). Think

Three Schmeee - there are heaps of them!!

1. 'Camper Van Beethoven' - love the band, hate the name - there is nothing worse that a band name based on a pun! Like wise 'Glasvegas'

2. 'Peter and Test Tube Babies' and 'The Bags From Tescos' - just two of the very silly names to come out of punk!

3. 'Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - just straight pretentious!

4. 'Def Leppard' - Learn to SPELL morons!!!

5. 'Girls at our best' - as opposed to what?

6. 'Inspiral Carpets' - just makes me think of a really cheap Persian carpet and far far far too many drugs.

7. 'Sex Gang Children', 'The Ladybug Transistor' and 'Zodiac Mindwarp' - the WTF of band names - Think - what does it all mean?

8. 'Porno for Pyros' - haha they said porno, ha ha porno Rolling Eyes

9. 'The The', 'Mr Mister' and 'The Ting Tings' - we just can't be bothered to think up a name so ner!

10. 'Panic! At the Disco' - yes I like the Smiths too but there are better lyrics to choose from...

11. 'Half Man Half Biscuit' and 'Limp Biskit' - cookies are not a good basis for a band name!

12. 'Right Said Fred' - oh so WRONG (in every single way!)

13. "Kajagoogoo' (and stick it on your head), 'Wang Chung' and 'Chumbawamba' - from the lets just make random noises school of band names!

Giving up because I am laughing too much Laughing

I'll give you Def Lepard. There's something childish/boyish about hard rock/heavy metal bands getting their names from the animal kingdom. Like Whitesnake, the Scorpions, etc.

BUT "Porno for Pyros" I always thought of as a name that kicked arse Very Happy Smile
