|
This Desert Island Discs isn't just another Greatest Albums ever poll. It is the 5 albums and 5 individual songs you would take with you. Don't just pick all the greatest albums of all time, if they are all similar to one another. Because if you were on this island, you would get bored pretty quick.
My Albums (off the top of my head)
Lorca - Best Album Ever?
Trout Mask Replica - Best Album Ever
Illinoise - Pop Classic
Tales of Topogonic Oceans - Progressive, Find different things with each listen
A Love Supreme - 1 of the greatest jazz albums ever
I'll do my singles later!

Well, my desert island choices would be the same as my "greatest album" selections simply because I rank them in order of favorite anyway. I've listened to these albums hundreds of times and I still listen to them constantly and there is no doubt that they would be the perfect accompaniment for me on a desert island. All of them are staggeringly powerful. To me they are the five towering, supreme masterworks of rock and jazz.
My 5 desert island discs:
1) Black Saint & the Sinner Lady-Charles Mingus (1963)
2) Trout Mask Replica-Capt Beefheart (1969)
3) A Love Supreme-John Coltrane (1964)
4) Rock Bottom-Robert Wyatt (1974)
5) Faust-Faust (1971)
5 songs/tracks [song-artist-album-track #-(year)]
1) Atlantis-Sun Ra-Atlantis-Track #5 (1967)
2) Trio & Group Dancers–Charles Mingus-The Black Saint & The Sinner Lady-Track #4 (1963)
3) Pursuance/Part 4: Psalm-John Coltrane-A Love Supreme-Tracks #3 & #4 [on latest CD issue listed as 2 separate tracks, on previous issue(s) listed as a single track with two parts] (1964)
4) “JMK-80 CFN-7”-Anthony Braxton-Saxophone Improvisations, Series F-Track #4 (1972)
5) Sister Ray-The Velvet Underground-White Light/White Heat-Track #6 (1967)
By the way, Lorca came close to making my albums choices (I rank it 11th all time), and the title track would be 10th on my songs/tracks list. An astonishing album to say the least.

Autechre - Tri Repetae++
Wire - Chairs Missing
Electric Wizard - Dopethrone
Explosions In The Sky - Those who tell the truth shall die, Those who tell the truth shall live forever

Nice thread. For me, mine would be:
Lágrimas Negras - Bebo Valdés & Diego El Cigala
Paco de Lucia - Entre dos Aguas
Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
Velvet Underground and Nico
I think it's not such the quality or the innovation here, more that you like the music and don't get bored with it. After all, you might have to hear these five albums hundreds of times if your stuck on this island for any length of time!

bc1991 Sõpruse Puiestee is an indie rock band with a electronic taste. They have alot songs that tell about the old times. One of my favorite is 1905(a very difficult time in my homeland)

Wow this is a hard topic! I can't decide whether to do more rock or jazz... I'm trying to figure out whether I would get sick of the singers voice, making me wish i had picked something instrumental, after listening to it thousands of times or if i would be so loney that i would be desperately want to hear another persons voice...?
Singles/Tracks:
Hurricane Fighter Plane - The Red Crayola
Sister Ray - Velvet Underground
Desolation Row - Bob Dylan
Shine On You Crazy Diamond parts 1-5 - Pink Floyd
The Creator Has a Master Plan - Pharaoh Sanders
Albums:
Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground & Nico
Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica
John Coltrane - Ascension (so complex it would never get boring)
Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden
Charles Mingus - Black Saint and the Sinner Lady
Runners Up:
The Clash - London Calling
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme

Also for this topic, I think I would prefer jazz albums since they're more complex and don't get as old as fast.
So maybe A Love Supreme, too.
