Not many acts from Vermont...but here's the most prominent in order:
Phish
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals
Chin Ho! (defunct at least 10 years now)

I'll mention the hip-hop group The Aztext despite I don't think they're that prominent, just because my best friend from my early childhood is their DJ. Regrettably, I don't like much hip-hop music, and theirs really isn't an exception.

Of the three bands I have two Chin Ho! albums and that's it. I can't stand Phish, and I've come to believe Grace Potter isn't my thing.

The next closest thing we have to "local" bands is those well-known acts that either came here frequently before becoming famous or who still frequent the state despite being famous:

Crash Test Dummies
Cowboy Junkies
Spin Doctors (they became famous because a Manchester, Vermont radio station used Little Miss Can't Be Wrong in an ad for a concert)
The Black Crowes (they pop into the state somewhat frequently, usually going under one of their pseudonyms like Mr. Crowes Garden, so as not to draw a big crowd).

Great news! I just found out that Allison Goldfrapp lives and records her music in Bath! Good on her!

Also I never realised it was her vocals on Tricky's Pumpkin until now.

Let's see, Wichita, Kansas.

Kansas formed in Topeka, KS. That's pretty cool. Danny Carey, the drummer from Tool, is originally from Lawrence, KS. The only famous musician I know who is actually from Wichita is Joe Walsh from the Eagles, but I believe he claims Columbus, Ohio to be his hometown because he spent most of his childhood there. I guess no one wants to be from Wichita Sad
