During the mid-'90s through to the early part of the 2000s, especially, there were a huge number of "TRIBUTE" albums (usually a compilation album of various artists doing covers of another particular artist or theme). I know I have a ton of tribute albums. I really enjoy hearing another artist's take on my favorites.
Take a few minutes and share your favorite TRIBUTE ALBUM with us. Here are three of mine:

Call it a guilty pleasure, but I do enjoy the Carpenters. Karen Carpenter had one of the most beautiful voices in the history of recorded music. When I saw this album, I wasn't sure if I could embrace it or grab a crucifix. Luckily, most of the acts on here did not even try to imitate the Carpenters, they made the songs their own. One of my absolute favorites is Sonic Youth's take on "Superstar"...haunting, powerful, and beautiful.
Also standing out, for me, is Shonen Knife's "Top of the World," "(They Long to be) Close to You" by the Cranberries, and "Hurting Each Other" by Marc Moreland.

My all-time, hands-down favorite band is Black Sabbath. So, I was a little nervous about what these other artists might do to MY band's catalog. The highlight of this album is an industrial-strength version of "Supernaut" by 1,000 Homo DJs (actually a side project of Ministry). Bruce Dickinson (of Iron Maiden) teamed up with Godspeed to do a cover of "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" that almost seems as if it were lifted from an Iron Maiden album. White Zombie adds "Children of the Grave" in the typical Rob Zombie awesome fashion and Type O Negative submits a frakkin' creepshow version of "Black Sabbath". Damn, I love this album. They tried to do a second one of these (Nativity in Black II)...but, it pales to this one.

"You Got Me Floatin'" by P.M. Dawn is absolutely mind-blowing...I LOVE it. "Purple Haze" gets a goth twist by the Cure that really works and Buddy Guy really gives "Red House" a work-out. Body Count, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck with Seal...this album has a lot of great stuff. Jimi would have loved it.

At their heart, the Eagles were always more country than rock. So, it's no surprise that so many country music greats decided to contribute to this effort. It's fantastic. Tanya Tucker's "Desperado," Travis Tritt's "Take it Easy," and Clint Black's "Desperado" are amazing and they're the stand-outs, for me. _________________ Speakers of the House DJ

Ah man, and I was actually gaining some respect from you.
I'm guessing you like it then I've only given it one full listen, and just parts here and there on my iPod sometimes, but I find they kill everything about DSOTM. The only song I can actually listen to is Us & Them

Have a few string tributes (QOTSA, Kasabian, Radiohead etc) but this is by far the best.
From an NME magazine but some great covers by Dandy Warhols, Dinosaur Jr, etc.

Amazing tributes to song from Neil and Tim Finn. He Will Have His Way has also been released. And a concert They Will Have Their Way is happening near the end of the year.
