If you had to rate a band solely on their latest/last original work (i.e. not counting remasters, compilations, or the like), how many of your favorite artists wouldn't make the cut? Pink Floyd, the Stones, and the Beastie Boys seem like obvious candidates for demotion. I'm sure there are many more.

Not counting the frauds like New Alice in Chains, New Sublime, New Queen and the like.

Gorillaz (Plastic Beach wasn't bad, but singles like Doncamatic and that atrocity with Andre 3000)
Weezer (ugh)
Nas
DecREMberists

The Cure's last effort was pretty poor. Some highlights but nothing like their output in the mid-to-late 80s.

Chris Cornell would drop. Scream is just awful.

I think the obvious example is The Clash,i've struggled through 'Cut The Crap' a few times but it is utter rubbish standing beside their previous rubbish.

I used to love Kings Of Leon for their first few albums, then they turned really shit.

Their first single.

Their last single. Don't actually trouble yourself to listen, just take my word for it that it's shit.

I know they're probably the least trendy band it's possible to admit liking but oh well, I'll admit that I LOVE their first album and very much like the 2nd and 3rd too.

Liz Phair and Weezer are the ones that spring immediately to mind. Both started off great and then steadily went from mediocre to horrible, and maybe in the case of Weezer, occasionally back to medicore. I'm sure the Weezer fans will give me crap for this statement. Anxious

At one time, I would have said U2, but their last album was actually pretty good.

Just my opinion but I don't think the last albums by Pink Floyd and the Stones were bad.

Not many people on this site ever liked Incubus by the looks of it, but they used to be a great band in my opinion. However, the last one was just dreadful, I couldn't even finish listening to it.

And The Chili Peppers latest was equally vomit inducing, although I soured on them a long time ago anyways.

And I'm waiting for the mention of Presence by Zeppelin, but I've always felt that album was underrated. Of course it wasn't their best effort, but I still think it's a pretty damn good album.
