The first time I've ever been upset at an artist dying.Nothing but Beastie Boys for me this weekend.
Sad news.... but seriously (?) regarding the bolded quote.

Just played a track on Triple J from Licensed To Ill; great hip-hop that I have never got into. The Beastie Boys are one of the most important groups of the 90s and MCA's legacy will be missed.
There is a tribute on Triple J at 1pm today. You can stream it online as far as I know.
I'm not a huge fan of them, but over time, I've come to have a lot of respect for The Beastie Boys. These guys have been at it since I was in high school. That's when their debut came out and I had it on vinyl. I saw them live once at Lollapallooza. They were great! Also, I hate to drag race into it, and I'm not saying this to be divisive, but they were the first Caucasian rappers to make it big (before Eminem, Snow, House of Pain), and they had the talent, for sure, as they proved over time that they were no "suckas" or poseurs.
I might be wrong, but I think this is only the second time I can remember a major musical figure from my generation passing away (Kurt Cobain was the first). Sad news.
