What does he have to do with the Manic Street Preachers anyway. Nicky Wire will say he is a socialist and those are the people coming in (to my best knowledge). Were you simply using 'Sarkozy' as a derogatory term?

He's even worse.
Didn't understand the other question.

What I am saying is politically they have nothing to do with each other. I was wondering if you used his name rather than using derogatory words to get your point across before.

I think they have a lot in common politically. For one thing, they both condone the capitalist system. I used Sarkozy's name because, although I'm not satisfied with the 'socialist' party winning this, I think pretty much everything (except the National Front) was better than 5 more years of Sarkozy. And I'm happy he lost. I don't think we'll all live much better - but just a little better will do for today.

What?
Was he a bad leader? I've never looked into it much. Glad that the country is happy though. _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!

The incumbent president is always hard to beat. Term of the President is in France for five years, does not it had seven years before? _________________ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNGpsnTCUXM

Not that it's my place to say, but I fucking hated Sarkozy. The more unpopular and desperate he got the more right wing and conservative he became. Pretty scary how the NF got around 20% of the first round though, I suppose it was those voters Sarkozy was trying to attract. Anything but Sarkozy is fine with me even though as I say, it's none of my business.
Interesting times ahead, I wonder how Hollande will get on with Merkel? _________________ Shut up mate you're boring!

Yes it used to be seven years, the Chirac government changed that in 2000. So Chirac, who was first elected in 1995, was the president for 12 years (7+5). Then Sarkozy five years. The idea behind the change was to synchronize the presidential and general elections, so that the general elections (one month after the presidential) are now supposed to confirm the presidential election, and allow the government a majority in Parliament to support its policy.

Absolutely. The end of campaign was horrid. Sarkozy was chasing the NF's 18% in every way he could, more specifically trying to blame the French Muslims and immigrants in general for the troubles the country's in. That's what decided me to vote against him in the end, because I originally didn't want to vote in the second round, as I didn't want to support Hollande (I generally vote for the anti-capitalist left wing, and Hollande is not left-wing enough for my convictions - but as you said, in the end it was more "anything but him again" thing).
