If I was a musician that's exactly what I WOULD say. I wouldnt put music out there that i didnt love. But then again, this is coming from someone who can't play a lick of any instrument.

The Flaming Lips' best album remains "Yerself Is Steam". _________________ I'll be your plastic toy.

Totally.
Anyways, concerning the article, "religious music from the Future" concerned with "internal sadness about living/oblivion" sounds like a good idea to me. Then again, this is Wayne Coyne promoting his own bands album... Whether or not the album ends up being any good is impossible to predict, The Flaming Lips have gone up and down quality wise quite a bit throughout their career.

See, I think I'm now doing with you what I have a nasty habit of doing with my friends. That is, arguing over something that we fully agree on. I think you throwing in the word "best" is what threw me off. Of course no band would put out an album they didn't like (unless they were selling out), but I'm just saying that it's silly not to release an album of what you consider good material just because you don't consider it your best.

Yeah

I suppose my point is just that a band should believe that their newest effort can stand with the rest. Their new album should be the best current representation of them and where they're at. I don't have high hopes for the new Stone Roses because I don't think they believe they are going to come close to their debut. What's the point in thinking that? Set the bar and try to get over it. |
I agree with that. It was the, "what is the point of making it if you don't think it's your best" It could still be really good! (And lets no forget the $$$'s)

Is it so wrong for him to think that this one will be better than the Soft Bulletin? |
I don't think anyone had a major problem with that, although I agree with Lethalnezzle, it is probably just for the hype.

If I was a musician, there is no way in hell I would release and album that I didn't think was better than my last. I would always raise the bar. I'm not saying that the public will agree, but if I made a "pretty good" album in my eyes, I would tweak it and make it better.
If another MBV album gets released, I'll know that they think it's better than Loveless. It doesn't matter what you or i think of it.

Kevin will probably think it is better, I doubt the rest of them will be so obsessive.

Mean!
Oh and isn't the whole reason MBV took a 20+ year hiatus because they(he) knew that they could never make a better album than Loveless? or was that your point....
anyway, as someone who wants to release music (and I really have to get around to that soon) I personally would keep releasing music just because I love writing new music.
