hi all,
forgive me if this has been done before, but what was the first concert you went to and what do you think of it now?
Mine was cheap trick with opener spanic boys. Cheap Trick was good but the lasting memory i have of this concert was the old, fat spanic boys and their tight clothing. I've since called them the "spandex boys"...
You?

McNichols Arena, Denver, 1976.
Electric Light Orchestra
Elvin Bishop
Front row center. My friend wanted my first concert to be awesome (a good friend!).
Elvin Bishop was touring the Struttin' My Stuff album. "Fooled Around And Fell In Love" was the hit, and his lead singer at the time was Mickey Thomas, who later on made a career of dragging the Jefferson Airplane/Starship name through the mud with "We Built This City" and subsequent oldies tours. What people tend to forget about Elvin Bishop is that he is one HELL of a guitar player. I remember him playing a lot of pretty tasty solos.
ELO was pre-spaceship (touring A New World Record). Jeff Lynne hadn't started downsizing his band in favor of keyboards and overproduction yet, so the cellos and violins were still there. I remember that by the time ELO took the stage I was pretty high, and those orange fluorescent cellos flying aroung in front of me were quite the trip. They sounded great: Kelly Groucutt and Bev Bevan's harmonies were very good, and the strings were awesome.
A pretty great show to start off with! _________________ May we all get to heaven

Mine was a Ratt concert on February 25th, 1989, when I was eight years old. It was on the Reach for the Sky tour and Kix and Britney Fox opened for them.
I can't say I had the best taste back then.

Your taste wasn't any worse than mine at my first concert around the same time (a year later, i think). _________________ fav artists NOW | ALL-TIME favs | i listen 2 more music than u so u don't have 2!

Young MC... I think it was in 1990 or something. I can't even remember who opened for him. All I remember was that I thought I was pimp for being at a hip-hop concert... and I wasn't even there with my mom.

I saw U2 at Tampa Stadium during the Zoo TV Outside Broadcast tour in 1992. Public Enemy was the opener. U2 is still one of my favorites. That tour is still among my favorite ones for bootlegs.

Coldplay, 2006 at the Burswood Dome
My friend and I were such fanboys we had bought coloured tape and applied it to our fingers in the fashion Chris Martin had taken to at the time.

We may have done the equals sign thing, I don't remember...
Great show, saw them again 3 years later and they were even better

My first real concert of a major artist was U2 in phoenix, az with PJ harvey opening.
U2 was able to make that arena feel like my front living room. I saw them again for this last tour, and it wasn't nearly as good. Only comparable concert since was Muse's last tour.
