ha, the bit about punk music being for people can't play instruments is obviously kinda idiotic and intentionally inflammatory, but perhaps I can salvage something from his second statement.
Coming from someone who doesn't know much about metal, and thinks hardcore is one of the best genres ever... there does seem to be quite a bit more going on terms of creative/original metal nowadays, but there is very little in interesting, even relevant punk music being made (fucked up is all I can think of). Why is this? Is punk a limited genre that had its day and ran itself into the ground while metal presents wider possibilities? Or is it that punk evolved and transformed into many other things? Perhaps punk ideals have cemented themselves into other types of modern music far more than metal; the legacy of minimalism and simplicity being evident in everything from crunchy indie pop to post rock to noise rock to bla bla bla bla bla. Any thoughts anyone?
Punk rock is alive and well anywhere somebody is making music because they want to, regardless of how much money they have or what they "know about music".
It's an unfortunate stereotype that this just means they "can't play their instruments," but that judgement really only holds water if you think that a musical instrument is some kind of magical artifact that will only produce "good music" under the enchantment of the proper ritual of chord positions and strumming patterns.
I see this has created a bit of a stir on here....well thats my opinion on Punk music. In this instance I believe its fact. Music can't stay relevant by only being angry and spiteful. Besides being better musicians that actually can play a guitar solo, Metal songwriters learned that there are many different faces and emotions people want to connect to. Punk is not my most disliked genre though...that distinction belongs to Rap. All the young men want to be gangsta....lol, and alot of the girls are impressed by it. Lord help us all.

Making those generalizations about punk or rap music are no better than someone calling metal nothing but one-dimensional macho bullshit. Your comments show little understanding of the aesthetics of the genre's you dismiss. An exercise in missing the point.
