I'm gonna keep updating this for a while, so bear with me. Some of this may be a little more complicated than it could be but it shouldn't be too hard to grasp. For those who were with us the last time I ran a torunament you'll be a little more familiar with how I work.

TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE
Round 1 (Playoffs) : 40 years, 4 albums + 2 singles per team. 2 years per group qualify for the knockout round.
Round 2 (Knockout Round): 16 years, 6 albums + 4 singles per team (has to be at least 2 albums and 2 singles not used in round 1).
Round 3 (Quarter Finals): 8 years, 8 albums + 4 singles (Can not be anything you used in Round 2).
Round 4 (semi-finals): 4 years, 10 albums + 6 singles (Can not use 4 albums or any singles that you used in Round 3).
Grand Final. 2 years. All against all.

So, ROUND 2 RULES

The essence of the game stays the same: 1 team comes up against another and chooses a selection to represent their year in an attempt to outdo the other team.

Big differences: From here on in it is a knockout tournament and if you lose one match - that's it you're gone (and the victor of course moves on and up).

Your team is represented by 6 albums and 4 singles. 2 of those albums and 2 of those singles can not have been used in any match during round 1. and bear in mind if you make it through to the round after this one you will only be able to use 2 albums and 2 singles you used in this round.

Both teams will pm their teams to me (apart from whoever my year is versing where we'll find a third party ro post) which means whatever formatting you want done will have to be done within that message (obviously message me the post as it would be written before you hit the 'submit' button with all of its required 'code (e.g. [img][/img])) because I will be posting it exactly as you send it to me.

Previously I didn't want anyone who wasn't on a specific years team promoting the music on that team. Now everyone can be cheerleaders! Everyone can feel free to big up with videos and reviews and pics if they particularly like some of the music chosen.

The matches will be completely randomised (and randomised and randomized if a captain or/co-captain come up against themselves or 2 teams who were from the same round 1 group verse each other).

Round 2 will commence on Monday the 3rd of December.

I think...that's it. Fairly simple. All of the eligibility rules from round 1 still apply here.

So: 1966, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1988, 1989, 1994, 1998, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, Good luck and I hope you're pumped.



OVERALL TOURNAMENT RULES

1. The structure of the tournament

The tournament will have 40 different years in contention.

Round 1 will put the years in 8 different groups of 5. Within those groups each nominee will battle each other once. It will be scored as such: 20 points for a win, 10 points for a draw and 0 points for a loss. At the end of all battles the top 2 from each group will go into round 2

Round 2 will be the first knockout round with 8 versus 8.

Round 3 is quarter finals. Round 4 is semi finals. Round 5 is THE final.

2. Promotion
You are in charge of your nominees promotion.

I'll create the threads but the Captains (and/or co-captains) are responsible for bigging up/promoting/selling/pushing their nominee(s).

You are only allowed to use 4 albums and 2 additional singles (note: singles not tracks. I'd recommend going for singles that aren't on any album that you'd promote but it's up to you).

After each battle you can not promote with those albums/singles again until/unless your team gets to the second round.

This means you will need to have a minimum of 16 albums and 8 singles in mind.

You should post a picture of the album cover and important details (tis could cover anything you think relevant). You are more than welcome to post one video/track for each album and single. You are welcome to post professional reviews and/or little bits you've written on the pieces or even excerpts of lyrics. Just try and be reasonable with the post, don't "GARY it" if you know what I mean.


3. Eligibility
There are a few ‘ifs and buts’ here but for the most part it should be fairly concrete.
A. No re-releases: Only the original release of an album is eligible. This is so we don’t have The Clash UK vs The Clash US or Metal Box Vs Second Edition.
B. No compilations.
C. No Movie score soundtracks. No movie songtracks (which generally count as compilations). Musical soundtracks may be okay. Soundtracks where the album was recorded by one artist/band concurrently with the film are okay (i.e. Purple Rain).
D. EPs will count as albums.
E. Singles are only the song that was released as a single (not the b-sides/other tracks as well). If it is a double A-side choose only one.
F. Generally no modern classical as it is too difficult to compare with popular music.

4. Playing
Each match will have a home side and an away side. The away side MUST post their choices first. (Each year will have 2 home games and 2 away games).

5. Voting
When voting- voters MUST only consider the albums and singles being entered into that battle and not the year as a bigger picture. I know this is not anything that can be ensured but if you don't it makes the whole process pointless. This is intended as a game much more than it will ever be an actual factual decider of which year in music is best (which we all know is impossible).

Round 1 matches will be open for 4 days each, 4 matches at a time. Round 2 matches will be open for 5 days each, 4 matches at a time. Round 3 will open for 5 days, 2 matches at a time.
Round 4 matches will be open for 5 days each, 1 match at a time. Round 5 will run for 8 days.

I will not be attaching a poll to each match until the second day it's been open. This to encourage consideration.

6. Co-captaincy
In the nominations thread everyone will nominate an additional year that they will co-captain. People who aren't captaining 2 years will choose which year they want to co-captain first.

The whole point of this addition is mainly to cover the issue of someone being away for when a match with their nominee is on or just not checking on the site or abandoning it.

Co-captains only start promoting a year if the Captain hasn't posted anything on a match on the first day.

Your welcome to discuss via PM or whatever method - what strategy you're going to take.

7. Other

Okay I think that's it. Probably seems a little intense for just a game but I always find that makes it more fun .

FYI: None of this is set in stone until we start and I encourage people to question things and suggest new rules etc. (E.g. I kind of want to allow 4 albums per battle rather than 3 but I don't know if peoplee will complain that they haven't listened to that many albums from that year).

yeah that shit above ain't cool. people are gonna put some shit in with the gold so they don't blow their load in the first round, and this will lead to the downfall of great years.

It's all about strategy. A good advice would be to find a very obscure album with a great looking album cover that no one knows, say it's the greatest thing to happen on this planet, and hopefully no one will bother to listen to it!

I think it would be best if you have to mix it up for the first round, but then can reuse albums if you advance

It's also about what year you're against. If you think the year you're against are better than yours, only use the beloved classics, the same goes for a weaker year than yours, take some chances and use your "filler" albums/songs.

Yeah or maybe something where you start out with 4 albums and 2 songs, and for each new progress you add 2 albums and 1 song (or less).. maybe!

Okay that sounds aight. What bout then 4 albums per match that you can't re-use within that round but if you progress further you can use again?

People have at least 16 albums they like in their chosen year, right? Or even ones they don't like but know are popular. Or even ones they don't know.

Maybe like I did with the City v City tournament that you have a team you select first off (20 albums / 10 songs?) that you choose from. 5 albums and 2 songs per round - same team structure cannot go into next.
