Favourite era of music

So, after being on this site for a few months, I have discovered my taste in music is orientated a lot within the 2000s. Since I am 24 and my fascination in music grew at the beginning of the decade, my favourites seemed to be cemented in this decade. As much as I listen to albums from the 60s and 70s, I still go back to albums of today.

However, since my favourite artist is The Cure, I love albums from the 80s as well. Recently, I got into Peter Gabriel's back catalogue and starting to discover new favourites.

My favourite era of music is between mid-2000s and the mid 80s.

Interested to hear other user's favourites and if era favouritism is age-related or not.

My favorite era of music is 1909 to present, the era of the album. With better recording techniques, jazz albums picked up in 1954 and rock in 1962. With the introduction of CDs in 1982 many old albums began to reappear with enhanced sound and bonus tracks.

My collection includes selections that reproduce the early classical music of the Medieval (476 – 1400) and Renaissance (1400 – 1600), the Common practice period, which includes the Baroque (1600 – 1750), Classical (1730 – 1820) and Romantic (1815 – 1910), and the modern and contemporary period, which includes 20th century classical (1900 – 2000) and contemporary classical (1975 – current). Jazz and blues from 1910 to present, country from 1920s to present, and rock from 1950s to present.

If you look at my chart, it includes 2% 1950s, 32% 1960s, 30% 1970s, 12% 1980s, 18% 1990s, 6% 2000s. So if you are considering only contemporary era music that would be the breakdown of my favorites.

The 60's (best era of rock, bar none), The late 70's and early 80's (second best era with the arrival of punk and new wave), and the 90's (indie rock and alternative flourish big time). I also like early indie rock and some new wave of the eighties (the mainstream 80's mostly sucked though). The early seventies wasn't too bad either (Bowie, glam, protopunk), but the mid seventies on the other hand...

I'd say 1968-1972 were the best years for popular music. Many of the greatest bands peaked during those years: The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Velvet Underground, arguably the Beatles. I also love Progressive Rock, which had its best year in 1972. The singer-songwriters cut some wonderful albums during that period as well, such as Tea for the Tillerman, Tapestry, and Blue. Nick Drake's entire catalog falls between 69-72 (interestingly, Bob Dylan was doing practically nothing at the time).

1987-1992ish were also great years (Nirvana, Pixies, Pavement, etc.). I was born in the mid-80s, but was raised on classic rock (The Who and Pink Floyd, for example) with very little exposure to contemporary music. I've only recently begun to fill in the gaps.

This is probably because of my age, i'm 15, i find almost all of my favorite albums come from 1990 to present, i think the '60s and 80's are good, and i absolutely hate the 70's
