Does anyone else think that if this was Nirvana's only album, it would be considered sludge metal?

This album is horrendous, save for About A Girl.

in the same sense that The Melvins are 'sludge metal,' but this album has always been late hardcore punk to me. The last great hardcore punk album I can think of, actually. This is only my third favorite Nirvana album, behind In Utero and Unplugged, but this album is a part of the crucible for growing punks.

Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad

On topic, though:

Okay. I fucking love Nirvana. Nevermind and In Utero are both absolutely perfect albums that I never get tired of listening to. I can't do this one, though. I listened all the way through it once because I figured, as a Nirvana fan, I probably should, but it was just not very enjoyable.

About a Girl is great, though.

This album is only rated this high because of Nirvana's reputation. Only about half the tracks are even listenable.

Im from Seattle, so naturally I hate Nirvana

I don't actually hate them, Ive just heard every song they recorded at least 100 times and for awhile listening to them felt as exciting as brushing my teeth or washing my hands. But they're allright, and the music scene of today would certainly be very different without them. And I do very much like In Utero

My second favourite Nirvana album, after Unplugged. I prefer Incesticide too, but that's a compilation. This album is just really fun, and hasn't been played into the ground. Just a great heavy rock album. Thinking about it, they really were a great band who I probably don't give enough credit too due to how big they got.
