It's a web site, I just stumbled on today. For those of you who are Bob Dylan fans, what do you think of this? What do you think of the writer's suggestions etc.?

I agree that Bringing it All Back Home is a good place to start. It's my favorite Dylan album actually. I also realize that I have never really become a second tier fan, according to this guy...

This is coming from a non Dylan fan that's into weird Japanese shit. The writer seems to suggest that Dylan is beyond most people, as if Dylan might be too different for casual music listeners, or that Dylan's work is of some kind of higher art. Contrarily, I think Dylan is too simplistic who's songs get old rather quickly. Granted, I have only tried one album.

The man is an idiot. I feel I can speak with some authority having seen Dylan 22 times, and having grown up in a house surrounded by literally thousands of bootlegs. Listen to whatever you want first. My first Dylan album was Love & Theft, which he calls the "last of the listenable and accessible Dylan albums". So where the fuck is Nashville Skyline or John Wesley Harding or The Basement Tapes? These are all infinitely listenable and accessible albums. If you followed this man's advice, you'd probably hate Dylan. The first ports of call are usually Blonde On Blonde, Blood On The Tracks, Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited, The Freewheelin'..., Desire - so he's right to an extent (but then anybody could have told you that) - but if you want to get into Dylan then it really doesn't matter. Any reasonable person knows an artist with that vast a discography is bound to have a few missteps. Just fill your boots if you like him, don't worry if not. And don't take any advice from that smug prick. At the end of the last page he actually uses the phrase, "Congratulations... you now have a PhD in Dylanology". Jesus wept.

Yeah, but I like his much-maligned Christian albums. And Self-Portrait for that matter. I don't think I have the same taste in Dylan as your average Dylan fan.

I love it. Just don't take it too seriously. It sort of has that Nashville Skyline sound, but without the cohesion. It's long and meandering, but definitely worth a listen. Sort of like the Dylan equivalent of Wu-Tang Forever.
