I know some of you hate compilations, and feel they go against the whole point of this site, but let's be honest. there are some artists and bands whose regular albums aren't all that great, which is to say they aren't really BEA material, but you still kind of like their music, so you end up getting a compilation of theirs.

These are some of my compilation artists and titles:

1. The Monkees- Anthology
2. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers- Anthology
3. Buffalo Tom- A-sides
4. The Best of Creedence Clearwater Revival
5. Simon and Garfunkel- Old Friends
6. The Animals - Retrospective
7. Loretta Lynn- The Definitive Collection
8. Nina Simone- The Definitive Collection
9. Almost any Motown artist or pre-1963 artist. For example, I own compilations for Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles.

How about you? Come on. Fess up!

Pretty much all soul and disco artists. That's not to be harsh, but record companies were so keen to build on any success that they rush-released albums, often 2-3 a year, and as a result there is a fuck load of filler to be found.

The new MBV Ep's collection is my favorite collection of songs ever released by them.

Queen.

I like pretty much all of their songs, but most of their albums are uneven, hodgepodge, and inconsistent. Even "A Night at the Opera" was ruined by them feeling the need to put a distorted version of the British national anthem on the end, right after "Bohemian Rhapsody", which should've been unquestionably the album closer.

Also, while there is absolutely not a blemish on Bob Marley's discography, "Legend" is an amazing compilation. You could take any combination of his songs, hits or not hits, and make a fantastic compilation album out of them. That being said, I prefer his actual albums, although I did make the "Legend" tracklist an iTunes playlist.

Rolling Stones. Beggars Banquet is the only album I've heard from them that was any good.
The Who (though Quadrophenia might change my mind on this whenever I listen to it)
Beach Boys EXCEPT for Pet Sounds.

The Smiths' Hatful Of Hollow I prefer over many of their albums.

This should apply to any artists that were popular before the Beatles.

The only way to hear Shangri-La's music are through compilations, and Myrmidons of Melodrama is one of the best albums considered a "compilation"
