- Post subject: Complicated Compilation Conundrum

In preparation for custom charts, I was looking through my collection when I noticed something. Most of the time, when I have a best of or singles collection, I put the original year in. However this means a release could have several years with it. Example:
Track
1 - 1991
2 - 1991
3 - 1987
4 - 1987
5 - 1993
For sorting out compilations, this makes it tricky. I have a conflict of year. Do I go with the original release of the song or the release date of the compilation.
Thoughts?

I don't understand what the problem is. If you're gonna have a compilations Custom chart, do you really need to sort them out by year?

I guess not but I think I was subliminally (maybe not at all) asking how others sort their compilations.
Original year per song or overall year of compilation release?

I'll do compilations charts as well, and I'll guess I'll just leave the compilation release date, and if any precision is needed, I'll had comments.

I guess I am talking outside of chart making now. When putting compilations into your digital library, do you list the year as the year of initial release or the release year of the compilation itself.
Sorry to confuse people. My way has always been by original release year so if I want a mix of 80s songs, I get those on a compilation. However, if I want to have a compilation (for example Changesbowie) in a best of 1990s albums list, the album wouldn't be included as it holds tracks from a separate year.
How do others sort compilations on iTunes or other programs?
