The 2012 BEA Music Awards - RULES & QUESTIONS

It's coming up to the most wonderful time of year! That's right, The BEAMAs are coming.

For those who weren't around for the last one here's how the final thing went down:

The BEAMAs were born out of BEA's communal disappointment at the Grammy Nominations. We figured if they can't please us, let's please ourselves (or at least some of us). And as far as I'm concerned, the results weren't half bad and were pretty darn representative of our community at that time.

Well now (so far as I know) our community is larger and more diverse which can only lead to more exciting results.

The steps/schedule are as follows:

December 1st - January 2nd (or perhaps a little later depending on demand)
Nominations are due.

The nominations are your longlists of the best of the year in each category. The main categories (which are compulsory to vote in) have a minimum of 10 and maximum of 40 required nominees. The smaller ones (which are optional though encouraged) can go anywhere from 5 to 10. It will be run as a survey from Survey Monkey. There's a month allowance because it is a bit of a lengthy process (Also hopefully it gives time to listen to any big December releases (please don't release the new MBV album on New Year's Eve, Kevin! ).)

January 4th - January 18th
Ballots are due

So once all the nominees are counted and decided, the ballots come out (once again on Survey Monkey). You vote, based on the nominees BEA has chosen, for which you think are best. The main categories are ranked from Best to worst. For the smaller categories you simply choose your favourite. You have 2 weeks since it's a much simpler process than the nominations section. Most of your time will probably be taken up with listening to nominees you haven't heard.


January 25th - January 28th
The 2nd Annual BEAMAs

The ceremony, all the hard work (for you) is done and you can sit back and get angry at all the winners and losers . Last year it did take a bit longer than usual. Imma try and stick to schedule this year. I'd like to thank the sexy Necharsian for helping me out with this again.

Should anything be there? Should anything not be there?

There was a suggestion in last years thread to have a song category for each genre...which I wouldn't mind if people wanted, but it's far from essential. Although a massive benefit of that would of course be that lots of songs/artists that would otherwise not get recognised, do.

Best EP is the only I think would bring enough nominations. Plus I'd like to see that one.

Also is there going to be a distint difference made for Best Indie and Best Rock? I seem to recall there being some confusion in that area last year.

I've listened to <10 albums from 2012, so expect me to put those and a couple other random albums as write-ins for every category. Somehow I will make Burial win every category.
